The Educational Foundation

The primary goal of the ASCPA Educational Foundation is to attract the best and brightest individuals into the profession of accounting.  Founded in 1967, ASCPA members have supported the Foundation through financial contribution.  The Foundation has made it possible to annually award scholarships to accounting students attending accredited Alabama colleges and universities and it has enabled the Society to visit high schools and highlight the accounting profession to students.

The Impact on our Profession.....

“Over the years I have witnessed the very positive impact the ASCPA Educational Foundation has had on improving the quality of the profession of accounting in our state and region. Bright young high school students, with little previous knowledge about our profession, were successfully recruited by hard-working ASCPA volunteers. Awarding Foundation scholarships to those talented young people has also strengthened the accounting profession. But the diminishing number of college students, intensifying inter-professional competition for their services, and increasing tuition costs, require a strong and decisive response from ASCPA members and their friends.”
L. Paul Kassouf
ASCPA Past President

"During the years, as Executive Director of the Alabama Society of CPAs, I have been closely involved with educators and students at 18 accredited colleges and universities. The need for larger and longer scholarships has never been more acute. The only way to accomplish this is to raise additional funding to provide resources to meet this need. Our profession has always put excellence and high ideals as the number one priority. I feel confident that individuals and firms will meet this challenge with their usual commitment to maintaining excellence."
Bryan M. Hassler
Executive Director, Retired April 2007
Alabama Society of CPAs

"The profession of accounting is critical to the economic success of this state and region. ASCPA members serve many more people than just their clients. Directly or indirectly they touch every person in the state, and many people in the region, whether they are in business, education, human services, or government. The Society’s members have made tremendous contributions to the state and region. But to rise to today’s challenges we must have their support, as well as the support of others who understand how great those challenges are, and what it will take to meet them. Delay cannot be on the agenda."
