The ASCPA partners with TV stations in the four largest markets in Alabama for live, call-in hotlines during tax season. These phone banks create a highly-visible CPA presence for the general public and create key connections to local media. VOLUNTEER: Look for information in our weekly emails. Consist of more than 20 for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, each of which has a goal of improved financial education for Alabama’s citizens. The Society supports the Coalition with funding, energy and time. ASCPA members participate as speakers and attendees and the sessions are eligible for CPE credit. This program offers members access to top-quality spokesperson training, as well as extensive background tools. read more>
This program provides no-cost tax preparation at sites all over Alabama, using the talents of IRS-certified accounting and law students. VOLUNTEER: assist with training as requested by SaveFirst – fall.
Troy University Public Radio
The Alabama Society has a quarterly interview slot on 89.9 FM’s noon Community Focus program. Member CPAs go on the air to discuss a wide variety of financial education issues, ranging from disaster recovery resources, pre-marital financial counseling and tax tips to small business guidance. VOLUNTEER: call Diane Christy,with an idea for a 15 minute interview on the air. Montgomery or Troy studios.
Dollars and Sense Classroom Blitz
The Society’s Young CPAs have taken on the task of combining accounting career presentations with a financial education program. The first week of November they appear before high school audiences with materials provided by the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE). VOLUNTEER: the call will go out in the October magazine, and through the Tuesday Bulletin. Choose a school or offer to go to your child’s school or your alma mater – first week in November.
