Accounting Interview Day 2010
Somehow the calendar has already rolled around to one of the most exciting and life-changing days on the Alabama Society calendar – Accounting Interview Day. This year will prove to be even more interesting since the economy and a new location are thrown into the mix. After more than 20 years at the University of Montevallo, and in partnership with their accounting department, the ASCPA is moving Accounting Interview Day to the new ASCPA office in Montgomery. It will be a way to showcase the first-class facilities and to introduce more members and potential members to the work of the Society.
Mark your calendars for Friday, October 22, 2010 and make sure the recruiters from your organization are ready to go!
What exactly is Accounting Interview Day? It is a single-day event bringing together accounting students from smaller college and university programs with recruiters from all kinds of businesses. There will be public accounting firms of all sizes, including some of the Big Four, corporate entities, and state and federal governmental agencies represented. The FBI employs more CPAs than any other organization in the country and they are always on board, as is the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS. In order to qualify to attend, students must have a graduation date of December 2010 or May 2011 and no job placement. They are hand-picked by the faculty of their school and are highly-qualified. Hires result from this program! Many times a student will be hired and return in subsequent years as a recruiter, lending credibility to the event.
In spite of the tenor of the times, there is always a need for talented, skilled staff, and the competition is keen. According to Charles Baughman of ITAC Solutions, a Birmingham recruiting and search firm which specializes in accounting, “There does not seem to be a let-up in the demand for entry-level staff”.
Send your recruiters to scout out the accounting stars of the future on October 22. You can access the AID recruiter forms on the website; look for the Accounting Interview Day notice on the home page. Forms will also be sent out to recruiters who have participated in the last three years. Come to the ASCPA office in Montgomery and be energized by this new generation of accounting professionals.
