Scholarship Information

The ASCPA Educational Foundation awards General, Diversity in Accounting, Financial Need and CPA Exam scholarships each year. Scholarship applications are accepted from January 4, 2021 through March 19, 2021.

Online applications are available January 4, 2021 through March 19, 2021. Please send any questions about scholarships and the selection process to Renee Hubbard at scholarships@ascpa.org.


Scholarship Criteria


General Scholarship
The successful candidate will:

  • be a member of the ASCPA (join here!)
  • have declared a major in accounting
  • have completed Financial/Intermediate Accounting I and II courses before the 2020 fall semester
  • have a "B" average in all accounting courses (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
  • have a "B" average overall (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
  • have at least one full year left in school (fourth or fifth year)
  • be enrolled with 6 hours per semester/12 hours per year minimum
  • be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (green card)
  • have a strong interest in a career in Alabama public accounting
  • plan to pursue CPA licensure, but not presently be a CPA

Deadline for the 2021/22 scholarships is EOB Friday, March 19, 2021.

Diversity in Accounting Scholarship
The ASCPA Scholarship for Diversity in Accounting provides financial awards to outstanding minority students to encourage their pursuit of accounting as a major and their ultimate entry into the profession. A student qualifying for a diversity scholarship is defined as being of Black or African-American, Hispanic or Latino, Native American or Asian ethnic backgrounds.

The successful candidate will:

  • be a member of the ASCPA (join here!)
  • have completed Financial/Intermediate Accounting I and II courses before start of 2020 fall semester
  • have a "B" average in all accounting courses (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
  • have a "B" average overall (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
  • have at least one full year left in school (fourth or fifth year)

Financial Need
The ASCPA Financial Need Scholarship provides financial support to students who are experiencing financial difficulty while pursuing an accounting major.

The successful candidate will:

  • be a member of the ASCPA (join here!)
  • have completed Financial/Intermediate Accounting I and II courses before the start of 2020 fall semester
  • have a "B" average in all accounting courses (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
  • have a "B" average overall (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
  • have at least one full year left in school (fourth or fifth year)
  • have declared a major in accounting
  • be enrolled with 6 hours per semester/12 hours per year minimum
  • be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (green card)
  • have a strong interest in a career in Alabama public accounting

CPA Exam Fees
The successful candidate will:

  • be a member of the ASCPA (join here!)
  • be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (green card)
  • not have completed all four parts of the exam, but may have completed zero to three parts
  • not have any scholarship, grant, or other funding sources that would cover exam fees, and are not receiving reimbursement from an employer. Those who have received funding in the past, but no longer have current funding, may still be eligible

**Applicants must submit a copy of their NTS (Notice to Schedule) RECIEPT for payment of the application fee, and exam fees. A copy of the credit statement is acceptable. Upload attachments in PDF format under the transcript section of the application.
